When To Use Triple 13 Fertilizer

When buying fertilizer, you will notice that there are a series of three numbers printed on the packaging. These numbers tell you about the nutrient content of the fertilizer and different products will be suitable for different applications.

One of the most common types is the triple 13 fertilizer which is a general-purpose fertilizer that acts quickly. You’ll find that triple 13 works better for certain applications than others so if you’ve been wondering when to use triple 13 fertilizer, you’re in the right place.

13-13-13- fertilizer is designed to be a quick release, general purpose fertilizer that needs to be used regularly for the best results. On the packaging of any fertilizer, you’ll notice three numbers and they refer to the levels of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the mix. In the case of triple 13 fertilizer, the number 13 refers to the percentage of each ingredient. This means that, per 100lbs of fertilizer, 13lbs will be nitrogen, 13lbs phosphorus and 13lbs potassium.

How To Apply 13-13-13 Fertilizer

If you are working on an already established lawn then you’ll be able to apply your triple 13 fertilizer at the beginning of spring or at the start of the growing seasons for grass, plants and veggies and grass seeds. Initially, you’ll want to apply 10lbs per 1000 square feet (more on that later) but after the first application, you can reduce this to 7lbs.

When applying 13-13-13, you must ensure to do it in dry conditions. Applying to wet grass will burn the blades which is why it’s a good idea to avoid applying during the early morning when dew may be present. However, you will want to water the grass after you have applied and spread the product.

It’s important to keep up with reapplication which will need to be done between every eight and ten weeks throughout the season. But the best way to determine when to do it is by assessing how green and healthy the grass looks. To make your grass greener, we recommend using iron

How Much 13-13-13 Fertilizer To Use Per Acre

If you’ve been wondering how much 13-13-13 fertilizer per acre then you may have heard different pieces of advice. But for the best results, you will want to stick to 10lbs of fertilizer for every 1000 square feet. Since an acre is 43,560 feet, you’ll need around 450lbs for this large area.

However, if you have just planted your lawn then you may need to increase the amount of fertilizer to 15lbs per 1000 square feet. But this can then be reduced on the second application.

Final Thoughts

Triple 13 fertilizer is a popular choice for gardeners thanks to its all-purpose use. Whether you’re fertilizing a lawn, a veggie patch, a flower bed or some trees, it’ll serve you well. But because it is fast acting, you will need to make sure that you stay on top of reapplying.
